Gabriel Milby is a photojournalist from Louisville, Kentucky, studying photojournalism at Western Kentucky University.
Gabriel’s passion for photography manifested in his final year of high school, where he took a class for his school’s newspaper and yearbook. This experience led him to Western Kentucky University, where he would learn to sink or swim in the field.
At first, Gabriel struggled to get the hang of it, but after his first semester—and a winter break of boredom—he finally found his footing and began creating work he could be proud of.
Gabriel has always struggled with learning, but through this, he has developed the strength to keep climbing the mountain no matter how many times the boulder pushes him down.
So far, Gabriel’s journey has taken him all over Kentucky, to Washington, D.C., and to Cimarron, New Mexico’s Philmont Scout Ranch, all in the name of photojournalism. He has also worked for WKU’s publications, Talisman and Herald, which have helped grow his portfolio.
After leaving WKU, Gabriel hopes to secure a full-time job at a newspaper or magazine focusing on photojournalism—one that covers life itself through both the good moments and the hard ones.
